House Passes Bipartisan Katko Bill to Hold Administration Accountable, Ensure Central New York is Prepared to Combat Resurgence of COVID-19 Cases
WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Rep. Katko (R, NY-24) today released the following statement on the passage of the COVID Preparedness, Response, and Effective Planning for Advanced Requirements by the Executive Branch (PREPARE) Act, bipartisan legislation he introduced alongside U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider (D, IL-10):
“Today, the House of Representatives passed my bipartisan legislation, the COVID PREPARE Act. The ongoing pandemic has killed over 200,000 Americans, upended millions of lives, and threatened the health and economic wellbeing of our entire nation. As Central New York’s representative in Congress, I made a solemn promise that I would hold the Administration and Federal Government accountable, and ensure we have a more effective plan for combating this crisis and a potential resurgence of the virus.
“The bill passed today requires the Administration and federal agencies to develop and submit plans to Congress on how our nation would respond to a ‘second wave’ of COVID-19. With Central New York continuing to face the effects of the ongoing pandemic, I will not sit idly by as the prospect of a ‘second wave’ threatens our region.”
Rep. Katko’s COVID PREPARE Act ensures the Administration and Federal Government are fully prepared to respond to this crisis, and future COVID-19 resurgences. Specifically, the legislation requires federal agencies to develop and submit to Congress comprehensive plans detailing how they would respond to a potential resurgence of COVID-19, including measurable goals, anticipated challenges, and how they will consult with Congress.
