Press Release

SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced $6,392,157 in federal funds will be distributed to PEACE Inc., a local community-based organization dedicated to empowering underserved individuals, children, and families through the administration of support services and programs. In Central New York, PEACE Inc. serves communities throughout the region and operates facilities in the City of Syracuse, East Syracuse, Tully, and Baldwinsville.

The funds are available through the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, and administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Head Start promotes the development and school readiness of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children from low-income families. In Congress, Rep. Katko has led bipartisan efforts to deliver additional funding for Head Start programs. Last week, he introduced the Jumpstart for Head Start Act, bipartisan legislation that would provide $1.7 billion in emergency funds for Head Start to ensure local programs have the necessary resources to continue supporting children as they adopt important public health measures.

“I’ve been a strong proponent of expanding early education in Central New York and have consistently led efforts on the federal level to strengthen Head Start, a federal program dedicated to promoting the development of young children in underserved communities,” said Rep. Katko. “Today, I’m pleased to announce PEACE Inc. in Syracuse is receiving over $6 million in funds from this program. As we work to combat this ongoing pandemic, I’ll keep working to ensure local Head Start providers have the tools and resources to continue investing in the next generation of young people.”
