Rep. Katko Applauds $4.5 Million in U.S. Army Corps Funding for Repairs to Lake Ontario Water Infrastructure

SYRACUSE, NY – U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today released the following statement applauding $4.5 million in funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to make repairs on the East Breakwater in Great Sodus Bay:
“Following multiple years of high-water levels along Lake Ontario, our region’s water infrastructure has experienced devastating damage, harming our local economy and draining resources for local municipalities. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) recognizes this, and I applaud the $4.5 million announced today in repair funding for the East Breakwater in Great Sodus Bay. This funding will provide necessary relief to a region that has been ravaged by sustained flooding.
“In Congress, I have strongly urged additional resources to repair damaged infrastructure, and recently introduced bipartisan legislation that would prioritize repairs to Lake Ontario infrastructure projects. The Safer Harbors for Our Recreation Economy (SHORE) Act will ensure critical repairs to infrastructure in Little Sodus Bay, Fair Haven, Oswego, and coastal communities across Lake Ontario are prioritized and executed. As our region continues to face the devesting consequences of rising waters levels, I remain committed to strengthening our water infrastructure and protecting coastal communities.”
