SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced details for a virtual workshop on Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) via Zoom on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 10:30am. Rep. Katko will be joined by a representative from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Together, they will answer questions from Central New Yorkers, provide information and resources on EIPs, and discuss the status of taxpayer services amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals must RSVP for the Zoom meeting information.

Syracuse, NY — U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced $250,000 in funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has been awarded to Confidential Help for Alcohol and Drugs, Inc. (CHAD) in Auburn, NY, and Farnham, Inc., in Oswego, NY, to address youth substance abuse.  Both organizations provide critical substance abuse treatment programs to the Central New York community.

SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced $617,000 in federal funds will be distributed to the Greater Syracuse Land Bank and Canal Society of New York State for the preservation of nationally significant sites in Central New York. The funds are available through the National Park Service’s Save America’s Treasures Program.

The Greater Syracuse Land Bank will use the funds to support the Gustav Stickley House Restoration, a project that will create a historic museum in the former home of Gustav Stickley, an early 20th century furniture designer and manufacturer. The Canal Society of New York State will use their funds for the preservation of historic items related to the Erie Canal in Manlius.

SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (R, NY-24) today led a bipartisan effort, urging Congressional Leaders to include $1.1 billion in the next COVID-19 relief package for senior nutrition programs, such as Meals on Wheels, and other support programs offered under the Older Americans Act (OAA). Rep. Katko led this effort alongside U.S. Reps. Suzanne Bonamici (D, OR-1), Elise Stefanik (R, NY-21), and Susan Wild (D, PA-7). The lawmakers were joined by 92 of their colleagues.

SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) released the following statement ahead of tomorrow’s scheduled vote in the House: 

 “This weekend, the House is set to consider legislation to ensure the viability of the United States Postal Service (USPS) during the ongoing pandemic. Now, more than ever, our community is relying on the USPS to deliver essential goods, medication, absentee ballots, and to ensure timely delivery of rental and mortgage payments and bills.  Slowing of these services would have a disastrous impact on the lives of many Americans.  Now is not the time to jeopardize USPS operations or delay services.  I will cast my vote in favor of the measure before the House.

SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced $608,190 in federal funds will be distributed to Owasco Fire Department in Auburn and Howlett Hill Fire Department in Syracuse, allowing the fire departments to obtain personal protective equipment (PPE) for local firefighters.

John Katko (NY-24) today announced $673,781 in federal funds will be distributed to Syracuse University and Onondaga Community College to provide support services that increase retention and graduation rates among low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities.

John Katko (R, NY-24) today announced the introduction of The Improving Opportunities for New Americans Act of 2020, bipartisan legislation that would strengthen the local economy and help ensure immigrant families in Central New York are able to fully utilize their skills. Rep. Katko introduced this measure alongside U.S. Rep. Ben McAdams (D, UT-4).

SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (R, NY-24), Ranking Member on the Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection & Innovation Subcommittee, this week introduced the Cyber Navigators Act. Ahead of November’s General Election, Rep. Katko’s bill aims to address the shortage in cyber experts at the state and local level who can navigate the complexities of election systems and address vulnerabilities. Rep. Katko introduced this bipartisan measure alongside U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice (D, NY-4).

SYRACUSE, NY— U.S. Rep. John Katko (NY-24) today announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded public housing organizations in Central New York with $1,286,969 in funding to support individuals and families assisted by Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) and Mainstream Vouchers. These vouchers provide low-income families, individuals with disabilities, and the elderly with safe and affordable housing options in the private market.
